Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a global not-for-profit organisation for young professionals, students and entrepreneurs ages 18 to 40. JCI strives to unlock the potential in its members to positively impact the world around them. JCI members have the opportunity to develop their leadership, social responsibility, entrepreneurship and networking skills to empower them to create and deliver positive change.

From its origins in St Louis, USA, JCI is over 100 years old and is now active in over 100 countries worldwide. JCI Southampton celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2019 and is one of the oldest continually active chambers in the UK.

Zoe has been a JCI member since 2017. In her first year as a member she helped organise the JCI UK National Convention which was hosted in Southampton and since then has been the chamber’s marketing director in 2018 and deputy president in 2019. She has also travelled extensively attending international conferences in Riga, Lyon and Tallinn over the last few years.

The role of local president involves developing and overseeing the strategic and day-to-day management of the Chamber, and being the public face of the organisation, through engaging with internal and external stakeholders. The local president represent the interests of local members at national council meetings.

“I’ve been involved with JCI for the last 3 years and having had the opportunity to take on various local and national roles in that time. I am excited to lead the junior chamber in Southampton as local president.

Our key aim is to empower young people in Southampton to develop themselves and in doing so have the confidence to stand up, make informed decisions and lead their communities to take concrete action towards creating sustainable impact.

Across 2020 we are looking to proactively engage with stakeholders across Southampton as well as working closely with JCI Portsmouth.

Our charity of the year is The Rainbow Project who providing a range of services to vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in and around Southampton. The Rainbow Project employ Young People (age 16-24) for a period of Twelve months, seconding then to organisations (see our hosts and partners page) within and surrounding Southampton who support/ host our Young People giving them valuable skills which enable them to sustain future employment and change their lives as part of the 'Life Chances' scheme.”
